DEARBORN (WWJ) - Police in Dearborn have arrested a 34-year-old Detroit man in connection with a rash of catalytic converter thefts from parked vehicles.
Karondi Hernton was arrested and arraigned Friday on two counts of larceny from a vehicle.
Police say during the early morning hours on Thursday, they watched as Hernton used a reciprocating saw to remove two catalytic converters from a vehicle parked in a lot at Michigan and Schlaff.
Officers continued to follow Hernton through several other jurisdictions and watched him attempt to steal another catalytic converter in Madison Heights, where they arrested him.
Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said Hernton is suspected of being responsible for as many as 100 catalytic converter thefts in Dearborn and the surrounding region.
